Person First vs. Identity First Language

Person-First language puts the person before the disability. People that prefer to use person-first language might refer to themselves as a "person with a disability".

Identity-First language puts the disability first. People that prefer to use identity-first language might refer to themselves as a "disabled person".

There is no correct or incorrect type of language to use because it depends on the preference of the individual you are referring to. The first step is to listen and pay attention to how others refer to themselves, or which type of language they prefer. The second step is to respect them by referring to them with that type of language as well.
